Summer Hair Colors That Work Well

Woman with red hair

So many of us are gearing up and itching for the summer weather to kick in. Of course, with the start of summer also comes the start of summer hair. Every time the seasons change so many of us are eager to switch up our hair color to accommodate the change in seasons with our hair. Plus, who doesn’t love an excuse to change your hair color and embrace something new into your life. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with your hair, so changing the color is a great way to update your look easily. We always hear about hair color trends, but we wanted to focus on summer hair colors that work for women of color.

Pop of Blue
You’ve probably noticed that bold, bright hair colors are kind of a thing these days. This summer, we definitely have quite a few bright hair color trends happening, one of the colors that some experts suggest work best for women of color are blue and purple tones. Since these hair colors tend to take a LOT to get your hair to hold the color, the best way to incorporate the trend without having to deal with constantly touching it up every couple of days (or putting too much stress on your hair) is to choose an area of your hair to add the color. Adding a streak or chunk of hair with the color is a great way to add the color, but not have to constantly deal with the excessive maintenance if you were to color your entire head of hair with the color.

Golden Blonde
When we think of the summer months, we tend to be drawn to lighter and bright colors… even with our hair. If you’re interested in something drastic for a change of pace with your hair, one of the super gorgeous hair colors that work for women of color this summer has to be the addition of golden blonde hues. It’s often quite a change of hair color, but when you have your hair colorist add a lot of golden undertones to the blonde hue it can look stunning. Beyonce is a woman who has rocked this type of hair color for a while, but this summer season we’re expecting to see more and more of it. It’s a total shift, but perfect for the summer months.

Red Hot
Red hair is definitely having a moment, for women of all color. We love the edginess that you can achieve by incorporating some red tones to your hair. Typically, the darker shades of red work best for women of color and similar to the blue/purple tones the darker the red the easier it’s going to be to maintain such a bold color. With red, you can really incorporate as much or as little as you like or resonate with for yourself. Just adding in a few pieces of red, or a haze of red can be great if you don’t want to go for the full effect.  But if you’re feeling really red – try going for a full head of dark red.

Be The Woman In Red

Woman in red

We always hear about blondes and brunettes, but why not be the woman in red? Red hair is always a stunner, regardless of the actual shade of red it is. We’ve noticed that red locks have become more and more popular recently, and we thought you may be curious about what some of the popular shades of red we can expect to see in the next year or so. You may even be considering going for a change in hair color yourself, and stepping outside your comfort zone and into something like red. Regardless, we’re sharing some of the popular red hair colors we’re excited to see.

Dark Garnet Locks
Think that red hair is all about the lighter colors? Not anymore! Recently, we’ve been seeing ladies bringing red hues into their locks with a dark twist. Dark garnet hues are being seen on locks everywhere, and we’re not expecting it to go anywhere anytime soon. It’s a fresh take on the red hair color, something that’s a bit edgier and different for those that like red but want to step outside the norm a bit. Typically, the dark garnet hair is blended in with darker roots (almost close to a black color) to add some dimension to the color and an even edgier twist.

Blonde-Red
You may have heard about the blorange hair color trend that’s pretty popular this year already, which is the combination of blonde and orange hues. If you’re not really about the orange mix, but you really want something a bit different and to embrace the red hues the blonde-red color may be the perfect fit for you. Essentially, this is a blonde shade of hair that’s mixed in with a tint of red. So it’s a real mix between the two. Giving you the lightness that comes with blonde hair, but adding a unique twist with the red hue mixed in that can really give you a nice update and be the woman in red everyone takes note of.

Copper hair

Copper
Of course, we can’t forget the popularity of the copper red hair color. It’s what many of us tend to think of when we think of a natural red head, but this year we’re seeing copper amped up a bit in the trend world. So many ladies are rocking copper hair, with extra shine. The super shiny element of the copper color really gives it a gorgeous pop that emphasizes the natural hair color in a way that’s incredibly natural but different from blonde and brunette hues. Which is why it’s so stunning!

Bright Red
You’ve probably noticed that the past year has been a year filled with super bright hair color trends. Well, that trend doesn’t stop with the red tones, in fact it’s one of the more popular ways ladies are rocking red hair this year and we kind of love it. If you really want to be a lady in red, you may even think about going for a super bright/bold red hair color for a total change.

Will Green Locks Be Trending This Summer?

Woman with green hair putting on sunglasses

So far in 2017, we’ve been seeing some pretty bold and different hair color trends popping up on the locks of ladies everywhere.  The past couple of years, hair colors trends have changed from the traditional blonde and brunette shades to incorporating more bold hues.  You know what?  We kind of love it!  It’s fresh and exciting, we have to say.  We’ve seen colors ranging in a lot of different hues and we noticed some green hues popping up already.  It got us thinking…will green locks be trending this summer?  We did a little internet searching and found some forecasts from the experts on this topic…

Ok, so will green locks be trending this summer?  Throughout our searching on the trends to expect for 2017, it looks like YES green will be trending this summer season.  Green hues may not be the most expected hue to take place in the locks of ladies, but thanks to social media sites like Instagram ladies are getting more experimental and bold with their hair color choices.  Some of the bold colors in hair have been starting for the past year or so, with the start of blue and purple tones making their way into the galaxy inspired hair color.  While we’ve seen a lot of blue and purple tones, it was probably a natural progression to start to see some green hues making their way into locks of ladies.

Woman with green hair

Much like some of the other bold color hues that we’ve seen in hair trends recently, the green locks we’re expecting to see (according to some of the experts in the industry) are going to range in different brightness depending on the person.  Pastel and bold hair colors are pretty popular right now, with no sign of them slowing down.  One thing that you may find is fairly consistent with the addition of green locks for some ladies this summer season is adding green mixed in with some other fun colors for their locks.  From what we’ve seen already, many ladies that are making the bold green hair color switch are adding green in with purple, pink and blue tones as well.  Making for a super fun, multi-dimensional hair color look.  We’ve been seeing multi-dimensional hair colors made popular since the start of the ombre hair color trend – so it only makes sense that ladies are incorporating that same coloring technique and applying it with bolder hues.

While we’re all about making a statement and having fun with your hair color, if you’re thinking about making a switch to something like a green hair color for yourself it’s super important to make sure that you’re going to an expert colorist to do so.  Coloring anyone’s hair such bold and different colors can be a process, and it can be damaging to the hair if it’s not done the right way.  Ask around for referrals on what colorists are respected in your area and ask what their experiences are with coloring bold hues before booking your appointment.

2017 Loves Retro Inspired Hair

We can’t get enough of chatting about trends now that we’re starting to get a feel for some of the trends we can expect in 2017.  In the past year we’ve definitely had a lot of flashback trends happening, and we’re all about it.  It doesn’t look like we’re stopping with the trend revival in 2017, either.  In fact, it’s appearing as though 2017 loves retro inspired hair.  Yep!  We’re going to be seeing all sorts of retro inspired hair throughout the next year, and if you’re like us you can’t wait for it all.  You know we’re always here to keep you up-to-date so we’re sharing some of the retro inspired hair looks you can expect to see this year.

retro waves

Loose Waves + Accessories
Loose waves is definitely a retro inspo vibe that we’ve all known and loved for quite a while.  While there are so many different takes on waves, during couture fashion week it seemed to be about those retro inspired waves that are so classically chic.  Some designers switched things up a bit by adding some fun accessories to the loose waves to give us even more retro inspiration (hair accessories are a must with retro-inspired looks!).

The Sleek Ponytail
There’s something about the sleek ponytail that always looks chic, probably why it’s such a retro/classic look that designers revisit every so often.  It’s clear we’re having some major retro inspired hair, based on some of the recent fashion shows that have taken place.  Many of the models had sleeked back ponytails that were very classic, but also made a major retro statement.  It’s a look that goes with so many different looks, and has a way of adding a retro vibe to really any look.  So we’re not surprised to see all of the sleek ponytail looks that appear as though they’re going to be making some major retro inspo this new year.

retro braid

The Low Ponytail Braids
Another classic, retro-esque type of hair style that we noticed on quite a few runways during couture fashion week recently was the low ponytail braids.  Braids have definitely been having a major moment in the past year or two, but with the low ponytail braid it’s giving us some retro vibes that we’re all about.  Many designers added some accessories to the braids to add to the retro inspiration – and of course to switch up the traditional braid look that we all know and love.

Adding Clips
We couldn’t forget to mention the use of clips being added to hair styles.  Retro hair styles always made use of clips in unique ways, and during the recent couture fashion week the designers were getting some major retro inspiration and using clips to create completely unique hair styles that really added some retro edge to the looks.  Many were adding clips across the top of the heads in a traditionally slicked back hair style – talk about adding a different element to the hair style, right?

Do you have a favorite retro inspired hair style you think is going to be popular this year?

Hot Hair Colors For 2017

We’re a couple of months into 2017 now, and any time we have the start of a new year it comes with a range of new trends for us to look forward to.  Every year there are different hair colors that we tend to see EVERYWHERE.  That’s the fun part of the beauty industry, really, that it’s constantly changing and evolving at all times.  We always have fun chatting about trends, so we thought we would share some of the hot hair colors for 2017.  We know you want to stay on trend, and you may find that one of the hot hair colors for 2017 is something you want to try out for yourself!

woman blonde hair

Light Blonde Hair
Ok, so we know blonde hair color is always popular but every year we always see the blonde ladies taking things in a little bit different direction to keep things interesting.  2017 is all about the bright, light blonde hues on locks.  We’re seeing an all over light blonde hue happening on ladies already, it’s a great way to add some softness to your look but also do so in a color that’s light and bright.

Blorange
Another different take on the blonde hair color we all know and love.  Not sure what blorange is?  Well, it’s actually exactly what it sounds like – a combination between blonde and orange.  Or rather, the pairing of the two.  This color is going to be in all different variations, with some ladies airing more on the orange side, and others more of the blonde with just a hint of orange.  It’s a great way to add warmth and a little dimension to the hair in a unique way.

Red-brunette
Clearly, this year is all about switching up the traditional blonde and brunette shades and adding in different colors.  This is a color that experts in the industry are saying we can expect to see quite a bit of this year.  Essentially, it’s the addition of a reddish hue mixed into an allover brunette hair color.  Some are calling it a cinnamon brunette.  Whatever you call it, it’s pretty gorgeous and a totally fresh take on a brunette look.  If you’ve been trying to find a way to rock the brunette locks but feel a bit more updated, this could be the ticket for you in 2017.

ombre hair

The New Ombre
The ombre hair color trend has been around for quite a while now, and it’s obviously time for a little change to this popular hair look.  Some experts are referring to the new method as a color melt technique.  Essentially, it’s a softer take on the ombre look with less of the color change and the lighter colors placed a bit more strategically throughout the hair.

Bronde
Another unexpected hair combination in the new year has got to be the bronde hair color.  If you were thinking it’s the combination of blonde and brunette, you’re right.  It’s really the combination of the two hues, creating a completely unique hair color look.

Trending: Hair Dusting for Tiny Split Ends

Trending: hair dusting for tiny split ends.  Split ends are always a ‘thing’ that we all have to deal with on a fairly regular basis.  But if we’re all pretty honest with ourselves, we try to drag out actually dealing with our split ends for as long as possible.  Sometimes getting a full hair cut for tiny split ends can seem like a big task…until now.  Hair dusting has become a pretty big trend in the hair world.  If you’re an avid social media user, you may have seen some videos of hair dusting and it’s pretty fascinating.  We’re loving the hair dusting trend so thought we would share a bit more about it in case you’re not familiar, or you’re curious about this hair trend.

woman cutting hair

So often when we think of getting rid of split ends we think we need to schedule a hair cut with our hair stylist of choice.  However, with hair dusting, making waves in the hair world that may not necessarily be the only option anymore.  Hair experts have said that hair dusting is a legitimate hair cutting technique that can do wonders for split ends.  One of the reasons so many of us put off getting our split ends cut off is because we don’t necessarily want to lose a lot of length.  The bonus of hair dusting is experts say that it’s a technique that allows hair stylists to eliminate split ends in the hair, without taking much (really if any) length off of the hair.  It’s essentially a technique that allows them to just remove the unhealthy, split ends in the hair and leave the healthy hairs behind.

The thing about leaving split ends for too long is, it can cause our hair to become more damaged and brittle, causing more and more breakage to occur the longer we leave the split ends.  With hair dusting, we’re able to stop a lot of additional damage from occurring due to split ends.  So you may be wondering how they actually go about this hair dusting technique.  Basically, when a hair stylist provides a hair dusting technique to your hair they go from the bottom/ends of the hair and snip the tip of the hair.  This is what allows them to remove the split ends, without removing the length.  The key to the hair stylists to really get the best results with hair dusting, is the hair needs to be straight and smooth so they can really see the split ends well.

The downside of hair dusting?  Because it’s such a specific type of hair technique focusing on a lot of detail, it’s a pretty time consuming service.  Experts suggest that because it is a time consuming technique, it’s the reason you don’t see many hair stylists offering or doing it.  However, it does have many amazing benefits like keeping your hair healthy between appointments, and preventing your hair from getting a lot of damage from breakage and split ends.

Would you try hair dusting?  Or have you?

woman with red hair

Blorange
Can you tell it’s all about the mixing of different shades in 2017?  Blorange is a color combination of orange and red, done in pastel tones.  Since we saw so many bold and vibrant colors like blue and purple in 2016, we’re not all that shocked that the pastel color trend is coming into 2017 but with a shade we haven’t seen before.  It’s a fun, unique color combination that almost gives a blonde like hue with some fun twist to it. You’re likely going to see blorange done in an ombre effect as well as a full head in the blorange shade.

Tigers Eye
When you hear tigers eye you may think of the gemstone that’s pretty popular in jewelry and crystals, but it’s now going to be synonymous with a hot hair color in 2017!  Tiger’s eye is a different take on the ombre/bayalage hair trend we’ve seen in recent years.  For the most part, tiger’s eye in done with the majority of the hair being a dark brown shade, but mixing in lighter blonde like pieces throughout the hair in a natural and unique way.

Chocolate Mauve
Another color combination for the win in 2017!  We weren’t kidding when we said it’s all about mixing different colors together for this year’s hair color trends.  This is another unique color combination with the combination of chocolate/dark brown hair with mauve like highlights mixed in.  It’s a color trend that gives a really unique and different take on a traditional brown hair color.  So many of us tend to add in blonde highlights, but if you’re looking for something a bit different that adds some warmth and definition, it’s all about the addition of mauve hues to the mix.

Whew!  Those are some pretty hot hair colors for 2017, right?  Do you have a favorite of the colors mentioned above?

Hot Hairstyles For 2017

One of the exciting things about the start of a new year is that we get to welcome the start of brand new beauty trends.  2016 was filled with amazing and exciting hairstyle trends, and we’ve been itching to see what trends experts are saying we have to look forward to this year.  Now that we’re a couple of weeks into 2017, we thought it was the perfect time to share some of the hot hairstyles for 2017 that we can start to anticipate seeing and even adapting ourselves.

woman with brown blonde hair

“Bronde”
Every year seems to have the debate on whether to go blonde or brunette and we see a lot of both, but something new we have to look forward to in 2017 is a new take on BOTH hair colors – it’s a combination of the two hues.  Yep, the bronde hair color is literally the combination of both blonde and brunette hair.  The great thing about this particular hairstyle is that experts are suggesting that the maintenance on this is pretty low because it’s got a more grown-in vibe to it.  Additionally, because it’s a combination of blonde and brunette it looks great on pretty much anyone.  Bonus!

Blunt Bangs with Long Hair
We’ve had so many different hair cuts, lengths and bang styles over the years, but this year one of the hot hairstyles we can expect to see quite a bit of is the blunt bang cut with a longer length.  It’s a unique and fresh take on long hair.  Since so many long hairstyles have been about no bangs or the sideswept style, a full blunt bang is a different twist that we’re excited to see more of in the new year.  In addition to the blunt bang, the style can be expected to be worn in a way that really emphasizes the natural texture of your (or their) hair.

woman with curly hair

Celebrating Natural Texture
In 2016, there was a major rise in celebrating natural texture of hair – whether a woman has naturally curly hair, straight hair or wavy, it was all about enhancing and really working with what your hair naturally does.  It doesn’t seem like there’s any sign of the natural texture celebration going anywhere anytime soon.  Many of the trusted hair experts in the industry are saying that we’re going to continue seeing the natural hairstyle celebration continuing with women embracing their natural curls and waves in a way that we’ve really never seen before.

Dramatic Side Part
The trends in hair parts always change frequently, and in the past year, it’s really been a lot about the middle part.  But in 2017, we’re expecting to see a lot of dramatic side parts to be popping up in the locks of ladies everywhere.  There’s always been something so chic about a side part, and going for a deep side part adds a fun little drama to any hairstyle – no matter what your hairstyle or texture is.

Haute Hair Colors For 2017

As we get ready to celebrate and welcome a new year, we have to acknowledge the fact that a new year means we’re going to be graced with new trends.  You already know how quickly and consistently the hair and beauty world change with trends.  Every season and every year is filled with new and exciting trends that we get to adapt in a way that’s unique to us and feels fun.  Since we’re exciting to welcome 2017, we thought it was the perfect time to share some of the haute hair colors for 2017 that we already see being pretty popular.

Tigers eye hair color

Tigers Eye
This hair color trend is pulling some inspiration from the gemstone, tigers eye.  It’s filled with a mix of brown and blonde tones, and that’s exactly what the hair color trend does.  For this hair color trend it’s similar to a mix of ombre and bayalage that we’ve seen in recent years, but with quite different shades used.  Typically the other hair color trends have been more natural in the blending of different colors, but with tigers eye it’s really about having distinct brown and distinct blonde tones mixed into the hair.  It’s a really fresh and unique take on a hair color, a great way to add a unique twist and add some fun detailing to your hair color.

Defined Lavender
You’re probably noticed that the past year (2016, that is) has been filled with vibrant and exciting hair colors.  Well it already looks like we’re going to carry over some of that colorfulness into 2017 because we’ve seen a ton of defined lavender hair happening.  Some are referring to this as a smokey lavender hair, whatever you like to call it – it’s pretty gorgeous.  Essentially it’s incorporating different tones into an all over lavender hair color that creates a lot of definition and dimension to the hair look.  Many of these hair color looks go from deep purple tones to very light and everything in between to really create a range of shades.

light blonde hair color

Light Blonde
Blonde hair colors are always popular, but in 2017 it looks like it’s really going to be about the super light blonde hair.  In addition, experts are saying it’s going to be more about blonde hair that’s more of one solid shade than a lot of different blonde tones mixed in to kind of create a unique twist on the blonde hair color trend.

Chocolate Mauve
Another super fun and unique hair color trend the experts are saying is going to be major in 2017 is the chocolate mauve hair color.  It’s stunning and a statement maker, making it super haute.  Essentially it’s having an all over chocolate hair color, but adding in mauve highlights to the mix in an ombre or bayalage type of technique.  The mauve is typically added throughout the hair to create a subtly dimensional hair color.  Since the mauve is a bit more subtle, it mixes in well with the chocolate brown color, but still gives the ability to add color into your hair.

Look Great With These Winter Hair Colors

The beginning of the winter season means a different climate…and different trends!  One of the more exciting aspects of the change of seasons has to be the fact that they come filled with new and exciting trends for us to try out and adapt.  You already know that the hair world is filled with new trends and ideas all the time, and this winter is no different.  We thought it would be fun to do a little focus on some of the unique hair colors that we’re seeing this winter season.  They’re different than many hair colors we’ve seen in the past, so while you may be hesitant  – we’re going to chat about how you can look great with these winter hair colors

Woman with silver hair

Silver/ Grey
The bold and vibrant hair colors have been growing in popularity in the past year, and this winter season really is no different.  One of the hair colors that stood out to us initially for this winter season has to be that we’ve seen so many beauties coloring their hair this gorgeous silver/grey color.  Essentially it’s a pastel tone of grey, with some silver aspects thrown in.  While so often we hear about women wanting to cover up their grey, it’s being celebrated this season.  And ladies of ALL ages are rocking this hair color.  One way to really look great with this winter hair color is to ask your colorist to add some depth to the color, so that your hair isn’t all just one flat color but something that has definition and different tones mixed in.

Shades of Blue
Another one of the gorgeous hair colors we’re seeing for the winter months is shades of blue.  We’ve seen quite a few ladies on social media with the bold blue shades, but ironically this winter it’s more about the pastel tones of blue.  Ironically speaking, because typically pastel shades are synonymous with the spring season.  But rocking a pastel shade in your hair is super fresh and fun, and such a great way to give you a little color during the gloomy winter months.  Similar to the silver hair, adding different tones of blue throughout your hair is a great way to add definition to your hair look.  The really fun part about a pastel blue hair color is truly no matter how you style your hair with this color it’s going to look extra special – because the color is so stunning!  If you don’t want to be full blue, try just adding it to the ends of your hair for a different ombre effect.

Woman sitting in a park

Pink Tones
This is another favorite, and a hair color you can expect to see quite a bit of this winter season.  Adding touches of pink to the hair is such a fun winter hair color.  Some are going for a full pastel pink shade, while others are going for more of a rose gold look (pink mixed in with blonde hues).  Similar to the blue shades, you can add as little or as much of the pink shade to your hair as you like.  You’re sure to look great and have a little Barbie inspiration with the pink.
