Summer is ending, but the toll the season took on your hair is probably still holding on. We’re not here to be negative but the truth is the summer weather and activities we experience tend to take a toll on our hair. The good news is you can repair your summer hair, it’s not too late. We know you want to start the fall off with healthy, vibrant hair so we’re sharing some of the steps to add to your hair care routine to repair your summer hair and get your healthy hair back.
Soothe Your Scalp
Whether you realize it or not, your scalp took quite a lot of stress during the summer. So often we forget that our scalp is skin, too! Between the weather and other elements our scalp is exposed to on during the summer, it tends to cause our hair to then become damaged. Here’s the deal, when you have an unhealthy scalp you have unhealthy hair which means you need to start the process of getting your scalp healthy. Exfoliating your scalp and massaging your scalp are two of the best practices to get into the habit of doing to help your scalp to be repaired. If you choose to use an exfoliating product for your scalp, just make sure that you choose a formula that also has moisturizing elements to it.
Apply a Hair Mask
Our hair tends to become quite dry during the summer, which means we need to do our part to add moisture back to it to help repair. A huge part of repairing your summer hair comes down to adding more moisture. Hair masks are incredibly powerful in this step. Because hair masks are more concentrated formulas you’re able to get a massive boost of moisture to your hair in a short amount of time. We suggest searching for a hair mask formula that’s suited to help repair and nourish hair that’s dry and damaged, these are targeted to your specific needs.
Get a Trim
Since your hair has experienced a lot of damage throughout the summer, it’s the perfect time to make an appointment at the salon. Getting a trim may seem obvious but so many of us hold off on getting trims for as long as possible. Sound like you? Now is the time to get into the salon! Haircuts are great for literally removing the damage from the ends of our hair. In general the ends of our hair tend to hold the most damage, you probably see split ends or more dryness in the ends of our hair which is why when we remove the ends we’re able to allow our hair relief and repair. Almost seems to easy, doesn’t it?
Focus on Moisture
We mentioned this above, but applying hair masks are only one way to add more moisture into our hair this time of year. Your hair is literally craving and calling for more moisture right now. Swap out your hair care products for formulas that are focused on adding moisture to your hair so you provide your hair with moisture, which will allow your hair to repair itself.
