Hairstyles That Work For Corporate Types

We recently realized some of the hair style suggestions we’ve been sharing may not be appealing to the corporate types.  But hopefully by now you know that we’re all about making sure to share tips that resonate with everyone as much as possible – we want to make sure we’re covering all our bases!  If you’re a corporate woman, you may feel like you have to be a bit exclusive to certain hair styles to be appropriate for the office.  It can get a bit routine to wear your hair in the same way all the time, so we’re sharing some of our favorite hairstyles that work for corporate types.

Side Braids
Similar to the above hair style, we’re all about ways to create a half up type of hair style in a whole new way.  One of our other favorite ways to change up this type of hair style is to create a French braid to the front section of the hair when you have it parted on the side.  You can secure the braid around your ear or pin it back to towards the back of your head.  There are so many different ways to rock a side braid like this, whether you have wavy hair or straight hair it’s fun and professional at the same time.

The Twisted Half Up Do
If you’re a corporate woman, you’ve probably rocked the half up hair style a time or two (or more) to the office.  It’s a great go to hair style, but wearing it in the traditional way can get a bit old after a while.  After all, it’s fun to change things up a bit.  One of our favorite twists (pun intended) to this traditional hair style is to create a side part in your hair.  Once you’ve done that take the front section on each side of the part and create a twist (similar to a braid by grabbing hair as you work your way down).  Once you’ve create the twist to about your ear area twist the end of the hair and tie it to the back of your head.  It’s a fun take on an old classic, but gives a completely different look.  The bonus is it’s a classic look that’s perfect for a corporate environment.

Sleek Ponytail
Ponytails aren’t new, but they’re also a great go to hair style for a corporate environment.  One of our favorite ways to create a modern twist to a ponytail look is to first create some volume by teasing the crown of your head.  Of course, starting with either straight or wavy/textured hair.  Once you’ve added some volume to the back/crown of the head add a middle or side part and leave a few pieces near your face to frame it nicely when the rest is pulled back.  Then just go ahead and tie your hair back in the ponytail, emphasizing some volume at the back.  When tying the hair back leave a small section near where you tie it loose from the ponytail.  Once you’ve secured the hair take the small section you left out to wrap around the rubber band of the ponytail to create a sophisticated twist.

Treatments For Over Processed Hair

woman adding oil to hair

Our hair gets put through quite a few elements on a consistent basis.  If we’re really honest, it takes a bit of a hit when it comes to TLC.  We’re all eager to have that gorgeous, healthy hair but when we use a lot of chemical treatments and other hair care elements on our hair it can be difficult to really achieve.  We don’t want that to discourage you, though.  Because there are some great treatments for over processed hair that you can do at home.  Yep, there are some really great DIY hair care treatments that can work wonders for over processed hair.

Amp Up The Shine
When our hair gets overly processed it can begin to appear dull and lacking a lot of that gorgeous shine we all want to have.  Many hair experts suggest that when your hair is dull and lacking a lot of shine, it can benefit from an olive oil mask on a consistent basis.  Typically, when your hair is lacking the shine it needs more moisture as the moisture and hydration has been stripped from the hair due to being over processed.  Olive oil is great at adding natural moisture back into the hair.  To really make the most of using olive oil on your hair to add shine, you’ll want to make sure to apply the olive oil at your scalp all the way down to the roots and leave it on for 45-60 minutes to allow the oil to really get a boost of moisture to the hair.

Help Dry Scalp
Dry scalp is another indication that can be the result of overly processed hair.  But without a healthy, moisturized scalp it can be really difficult to have gorgeous hair.  Since our hair really starts at the scalp, you want to make sure that you’re also taking care of the scalp.  Fortunately there’s a pretty easy way that you can get a boost of moisture to your scalp with an at home treatment.  Experts suggest that using a cotton ball with witch hazel on it to run across your hairline and scalp can be a really powerful way to get the moisture back into the scalp.  Additionally, some experts suggest adding tea tree oil to your daily hair care products to get the moisture to your scalp consistently.

Get More Volume
Another sign of overly processed hair can be when your hair begins to lack any natural volume.  Often when our hair has been processed too much it an begin to appear and feel lifeless – aka not having any volume and that can be pretty frustrating.  Finding that you’re lacking volume in your hair?  You’re in luck because there’s a pretty easy way to get volume back into your hair with an at home treatment.  All you need is some avocado, olive oil, honey and an egg yolk.  Mixing the combination together and applying it to your hair has been found to add a lot of great conditioning and moisturizing benefits to your hair giving it the nutrients it needs to get you more volume back.

Four Ways to Update Your Look for Spring

The spring season is right around the corner – can you believe it?  We’re willing to assume you’re just as excited as we are for the spring season.  With the change of seasons, comes the change in the way we dress and develop our look.  It’s always fun to change and transform our looks with the seasons, and as new trends come into the mix.  Since many of us are starting to have spring on our minds, we thought it was the perfect time to share four ways to update your look for spring.  Because after the winter months, we can all use a little update.

Try a New Hair Color
Often times during the winter season we tend to be drawn to darker colors, especially when it comes to our hair.  But if you’re looking for a little update as we approach spring, you may want to consider switching up your hair color.  It’s a great way to get a little update to your entire look, and lighten up your hair’s look as the temperatures start to rise and the weather becomes lighter.  There are so many fun and exciting hair color trends happening this spring season, too – so you’re sure to find a color option that fits in well with your personal style.  Bronde, Blorange and tigers eye to name a few!

Bold Earrings
One of the hottest trends that was seen on the spring runways shows for this upcoming spring season was the use of super bold earrings.  If you’re slowly starting to incorporate some spring elements into your wardrobe, bold earrings can be a great way to do that.  Adding new accessories is an easy way to update any look and while it’s a small detail because these accessories are pretty bold it will completely transform your look and give you that updated feel pretty instantly.

Incorporate Some 80’s Flair
You may not have noticed, but the 80’s are going to be having a major moment in the spring season.  Yep, we’re talking one-shoulder fabulousness and bold colors/prints – giving us all sorts of 80’s vibes.  If you’re looking for an update for the spring season, find a way to incorporate some 80’s vibes into your look.  If you don’t want to go full on 80’s glam, you can incorporate just a touch with a fun one-shouldered top to wear with your favorite pair of skinny jeans (for example).  Or try incorporating some bold colors into your eye makeup – you can’t go wrong with a little 80’s flair.

Add Stripes
The runway shows for the spring season were filled with stripes.  Stripes of all colors, widths and styles – and even mixing stripe prints!  Basically, it’s definitely a season where you’re going to be seeing a lot of stripes.  But it’s refreshing because we really haven’t seen stripes in the trend world for quite some time – making it the perfect way to add a little update to your look.  Try incorporating a fun striped garment to your wardrobe and pair it in ways that you may not normally.  It’s all about wearing stripes in a unique way this season.

A Bun For Work, The Weekend & In-Between

Bun hair styles are great for so many different occasions, which is likely why so many ladies go to the trusted bun hair look for so many occasions.  While buns are so great for different situations in your life, we know that it can be difficult to know how to take this versatile type of hair style and make it appropriate for different occasions.  We’re sharing tips for helping you to achieve a bun for work, the weekend and in-between.  Because, yes!  Buns can be worn for ALL of these occasions.

Don’t Over Think It
The thing about buns that often tends to get ladies tripped up is over thinking the styling process.  Keep in mind that regardless of the occasion, the less ‘perfect’ it is the more unique the bun style looks.  While there are bun styles that are great when done in a slicked back manner – if that’s a style that’s really difficult for you to achieve, don’t feel like that’s your only option.

Add Texture
Adding texture too your bun hair style is a great way to add some uniqueness to your look that can make it perfect for so many different occasions.  It gives it that effortless chic look – and who doesn’t love that?  You can add texture to your bun by FIRST applying dry shampoo to your hair, and then styling your hair in the bun hair style you desire.  The dry shampoo gives your hair that natural texture look that also makes your hair much easier to manage and style in a bun.

Add a Braid to the Mix
Braids are kind of everything right now in the hair world, and they’re a great way to add some extra style to your favorite bun hair style.  Once you get into the routine of styling your hair in buns, you can have the longing for a change to your favorite hair style – braids are a great way to do that.  You can add braids in so many different ways, too.  Whether you choose to add a braid to the side of your hair leading into the bun, or actually braiding the ponytail portion of your hair and wrapping it into a bun – you can’t lose when you add a braid into the mix.

Play with Different Bun Heights
While it may seem like a bun hair style is a bun hair style, there are so many different ways to mix up a bun.  Playing around with different heights as to wear you style the bun is one of the easiest ways to mix things up.  Low buns, high buns, and buns in the middle of your head are all great – it really gives you the opportunity to create a style that you feel is perfect for the occasion you’re styling your hair for.  Try mixing up the heights you wear your buns for different occasions – we’re going to bet you’re shocked at just how different the same hair style feels based on the height alone.

Tips For Applying At Home Hair Color

Woman coloring hair

Have you been wanting to try some at home hair color?  Or maybe you’ve tried it and it didn’t turn out quite as great as you hoped.  Regardless, applying at home hair color can be a bit tricky and there are some key tips to know and apply to make sure that you get the results you’re looking for.  You know we always want to make sure we’re giving you the best beauty content possible, and if at home hair color is something that you want to do for yourself – we wanted to be sure to share some of these tips for applying at home hair color, so you succeed in your efforts!

Get Two Boxes of Color
While it may often seem as though you only need one box to fully process the color you’re looking to achieve, many experts suggest making sure that you have two boxes before you start the process.  While you may not necessarily need the second one, if you should find yourself needing to open it – you won’t be stuck with half of your head in color and half without.  Finding out that you need a second box when you’ve already started to apply the color to your hair is not fun, and can lead to some problems in your hair color developing properly.  Do yourself a favor and plan ahead, it’s better to be over prepared than under!

Woman applying hair color

Test the Color First
We get it, it kind of seems like a lot to do a test strip on your hair before actually applying the color to your hair.  But testing out the color can save you from finding out that the color didn’t work for you and won’t change any crazy colors (we’ve all heard the stories).  The best way to do this is to choose a small piece of hair that’s a bit hidden under the rest of your hair (the nape of the neck can be a great place) and apply the color to that small piece of hair first to see how your hair adapts to the color, and how it processes on your hair.  Once you find the result you’re looking for with the test piece, go about the typical process with the rest of your hair.

Use Clear Lip Balm on Your Forehead
There are different products that are said to help avoid any streaking from occurring from the color on your forehead, but experts suggest that you can get the same (if not better) result by simply applying clear lip balm to your forehead area.  It will prevent the color from sticking and streaking to your forehead and also allow you to get really close to your hairline because lip balm is such a small applicator.

Lay Out All the Tools
Being prepared before you get started with coloring your hair is essential to your success.  Before doing anything, lay out all the tools you’re going to need for the process so they’re easy to reach and all together.  This will prevent you from needing to go around your house searching, and you can quickly and easily apply the product.

2017 Loves Retro Inspired Hair

We can’t get enough of chatting about trends now that we’re starting to get a feel for some of the trends we can expect in 2017.  In the past year we’ve definitely had a lot of flashback trends happening, and we’re all about it.  It doesn’t look like we’re stopping with the trend revival in 2017, either.  In fact, it’s appearing as though 2017 loves retro inspired hair.  Yep!  We’re going to be seeing all sorts of retro inspired hair throughout the next year, and if you’re like us you can’t wait for it all.  You know we’re always here to keep you up-to-date so we’re sharing some of the retro inspired hair looks you can expect to see this year.

retro waves

Loose Waves + Accessories
Loose waves is definitely a retro inspo vibe that we’ve all known and loved for quite a while.  While there are so many different takes on waves, during couture fashion week it seemed to be about those retro inspired waves that are so classically chic.  Some designers switched things up a bit by adding some fun accessories to the loose waves to give us even more retro inspiration (hair accessories are a must with retro-inspired looks!).

The Sleek Ponytail
There’s something about the sleek ponytail that always looks chic, probably why it’s such a retro/classic look that designers revisit every so often.  It’s clear we’re having some major retro inspired hair, based on some of the recent fashion shows that have taken place.  Many of the models had sleeked back ponytails that were very classic, but also made a major retro statement.  It’s a look that goes with so many different looks, and has a way of adding a retro vibe to really any look.  So we’re not surprised to see all of the sleek ponytail looks that appear as though they’re going to be making some major retro inspo this new year.

The Low Ponytail Braids
Another classic, retro-esque type of hair style that we noticed on quite a few runways during couture fashion week recently was the low ponytail braids.  Braids have definitely been having a major moment in the past year or two, but with the low ponytail braid it’s giving us some retro vibes that we’re all about.  Many designers added some accessories to the braids to add to the retro inspiration – and of course to switch up the traditional braid look that we all know and love.

Adding Clips
We couldn’t forget to mention the use of clips being added to hair styles.  Retro hair styles always made use of clips in unique ways, and during the recent couture fashion week the designers were getting some major retro inspiration and using clips to create completely unique hair styles that really added some retro edge to the looks.  Many were adding clips across the top of the heads in a traditionally slicked back hair style – talk about adding a different element to the hair style, right?

Do you have a favorite retro inspired hair style you think is going to be popular this year?

Hot Hair Colors For 2017

We’re a couple of months into 2017 now, and any time we have the start of a new year it comes with a range of new trends for us to look forward to.  Every year there are different hair colors that we tend to see EVERYWHERE.  That’s the fun part of the beauty industry, really, that it’s constantly changing and evolving at all times.  We always have fun chatting about trends, so we thought we would share some of the hot hair colors for 2017.  We know you want to stay on trend, and you may find that one of the hot hair colors for 2017 is something you want to try out for yourself!

Light Blonde Hair
Ok, so we know blonde hair color is always popular but every year we always see the blonde ladies taking things in a little bit different direction to keep things interesting.  2017 is all about the bright, light blonde hues on locks.  We’re seeing an all over light blonde hue happening on ladies already, it’s a great way to add some softness to your look but also do so in a color that’s light and bright.

Blorange
Another different take on the blonde hair color we all know and love.  Not sure what blorange is?  Well, it’s actually exactly what it sounds like – a combination between blonde and orange.  Or rather, the pairing of the two.  This color is going to be in all different variations, with some ladies airing more on the orange side, and others more of the blonde with just a hint of orange.  It’s a great way to add warmth and a little dimension to the hair in a unique way.

Red-brunette
Clearly, this year is all about switching up the traditional blonde and brunette shades and adding in different colors.  This is a color that experts in the industry are saying we can expect to see quite a bit of this year.  Essentially, it’s the addition of a reddish hue mixed into an allover brunette hair color.  Some are calling it a cinnamon brunette.  Whatever you call it, it’s pretty gorgeous and a totally fresh take on a brunette look.  If you’ve been trying to find a way to rock the brunette locks but feel a bit more updated, this could be the ticket for you in 2017.

ombre hair

The New Ombre
The ombre hair color trend has been around for quite a while now, and it’s obviously time for a little change to this popular hair look.  Some experts are referring to the new method as a color melt technique.  Essentially, it’s a softer take on the ombre look with less of the color change and the lighter colors placed a bit more strategically throughout the hair.

Bronde
Another unexpected hair combination in the new year has got to be the bronde hair color.  If you were thinking it’s the combination of blonde and brunette, you’re right.  It’s really the combination of the two hues, creating a completely unique hair color look.

Advice for Styling Coarse Hair

woman with curly hair

We know that styling hair can be a bit frustrating….even stressful for so many women.  We’re right there with you, by the way.  Really understanding your hair and the best tips to follow are crucial to helping you to be able to style your hair in the way that you want for yourself.  Since we all have different hair types and textures, what works for one person may not work for you.  We think that’s one of the fun things about the world we live in, all the diversity allows us all to be unique.  We decided to share some of our favorite advice for styling coarse hair, for the ladies with coarse hair to try out for themselves.

Don’t Wash Your Hair Too Often
You may have, or may not have, heard that washing your hair daily has been found to NOT be so good on anyone’s hair.  This is especially true for the ladies that have coarse hair.  Why?  Well washing your hair too often can strip your hair of its natural oils, causing it to be much more dry than you’d like.  Experts suggest that those with coarse hair shouldn’t wash their hair any more than 2-3 times a week to keep their hair healthy, happy and much easier to manage.  Make use of products like dry shampoos to get you through between washes.

Use a Hair Treatment
It’s said that many ladies with coarse hair can find that their hair becomes a bit more dry than they’d like.  Dry hair can be difficult to style and really work with because it’s, well…dry.  So instead of just dealing with dry hair, experts suggest that coarse hair ladies should make it a point to enlist in a hair treatment every week to give their hair the extra boost of moisture and hydration it’s craving.  You’ll want to look for a hair treatment/mask that’s designed to specifically add moisture and hydration to the hair.  Applying it to your hair and scalp weekly can help your hair be much easier to work with.

Keep Up with Trims
Getting your hair cut can definitely feel like a task, but when you have coarse hair it’s important to make sure you’re keeping up with hair cuts and trims to keep your hair healthy, happy and more manageable.  It’s suggested to get at least a trim every 6-8 weeks for the best results.  Of course, we can’t forget to mention the importance of having a good hair stylist do all your cuts and trims.  You’ll want someone who understands your hair’s type and is knowledgeable in how to cut your hair so that it’s easier to manage and style.

Use Quality Products
This goes for any hair type, but we had to be sure to mention it.  Since our hair’s health plays such a huge role in how we can style it – it’s important to make sure that you’re using quality hair care products.  This means using shampoos and conditioners, too, that are high quality and designed to work with your hair’s type.

Trending: Hair Dusting for Tiny Split Ends

Trending: hair dusting for tiny split ends.  Split ends are always a ‘thing’ that we all have to deal with on a fairly regular basis.  But if we’re all pretty honest with ourselves, we try to drag out actually dealing with our split ends for as long as possible.  Sometimes getting a full hair cut for tiny split ends can seem like a big task…until now.  Hair dusting has become a pretty big trend in the hair world.  If you’re an avid social media user, you may have seen some videos of hair dusting and it’s pretty fascinating.  We’re loving the hair dusting trend so thought we would share a bit more about it in case you’re not familiar, or you’re curious about this hair trend.

woman cutting hair

So often when we think of getting rid of split ends we think we need to schedule a hair cut with our hair stylist of choice.  However, with hair dusting, making waves in the hair world that may not necessarily be the only option anymore.  Hair experts have said that hair dusting is a legitimate hair cutting technique that can do wonders for split ends.  One of the reasons so many of us put off getting our split ends cut off is because we don’t necessarily want to lose a lot of length.  The bonus of hair dusting is experts say that it’s a technique that allows hair stylists to eliminate split ends in the hair, without taking much (really if any) length off of the hair.  It’s essentially a technique that allows them to just remove the unhealthy, split ends in the hair and leave the healthy hairs behind.

The thing about leaving split ends for too long is, it can cause our hair to become more damaged and brittle, causing more and more breakage to occur the longer we leave the split ends.  With hair dusting, we’re able to stop a lot of additional damage from occurring due to split ends.  So you may be wondering how they actually go about this hair dusting technique.  Basically, when a hair stylist provides a hair dusting technique to your hair they go from the bottom/ends of the hair and snip the tip of the hair.  This is what allows them to remove the split ends, without removing the length.  The key to the hair stylists to really get the best results with hair dusting, is the hair needs to be straight and smooth so they can really see the split ends well.

The downside of hair dusting?  Because it’s such a specific type of hair technique focusing on a lot of detail, it’s a pretty time consuming service.  Experts suggest that because it is a time consuming technique, it’s the reason you don’t see many hair stylists offering or doing it.  However, it does have many amazing benefits like keeping your hair healthy between appointments, and preventing your hair from getting a lot of damage from breakage and split ends.

Would you try hair dusting?  Or have you?

How to Rock a Push or 3D Fingerwave

wavy hair

Recently on social media, you may have noticed the rise in push or 3D fingerwave hairstyles making an appearance in your news feeds.  While it’s a hair style that looks complicated when it’s complete, it’s actually much more achievable than you may realize.  If you’ve been feeling like you keeping having the desire to style your hair in a push or 3D fingerwave, you’re in the right place because we’re sharing tips on how to rock a push or 3D fingerwave.  Yep, we’re sharing the steps so you can achieve this look at home!

Prep Your Hair
Just like with any other hair style, prepping your hair properly is going to help make sure that you get the best look possible.  The thing with this type of hair style is you’re not going to want your hair to be completely dry to accomplish it.  Wash your hair and use a towel to get it mostly dry.  Again, you don’t want your hair totally dry here.  Mostly dry, but not dripping wet – finding a place between these two is going to give you the best results for this type of look.

woman spraying hair

The Beginning Steps
Next, you’re going to start the process of creating this hair style.  With your mostly wet hair, comb your hair into a strong side part.  Using the comb to really create the part and flattening out your hair to really make sure that your hair is tight to your head.  While doing this, many experts suggest using a gel hair styling product to begin applying to your hair.  Since this is a very structured hair style gel is found to be the best product for this part of the process.  Applying the gel to your wet hair is going to help give your hair most structure and hold.  Apply a fairly generous amount of gel and work it into your hair and comb your hair to make sure it’s being distributed throughout the rest of your hair.

Begin Creating the Waves
To start to create those 3D waves in your hair, experts suggest adding a metal clip to one side of your hair right by the part and where you want to begin the waves.  This will help keep your hair in place a bit easier.  Once you’ve done that, use your comb to go down the hair a bit and then about ½” or so down reverse the direction of the comb to then push UP towards the part and clip.  While doing this you’ll want to use your other hand to hold the hair and comb down.  Once you create that wave shape, hold it in place with another metal clip.  Repeat the process until you’ve created the waves all the way down until you reach the area near your ear.  Do this process to both sides of your hair, leave the clips in and allow your hair to dry like that to encourage the hair to stay that way.  Once your hair is dry, gently remove the clips from your hair and set with hair spray.
