Getting older is something we can’t avoid. No matter how much we try, aging is just a part of life. Of course thanks to skin care products, treatments and techniques many of us are able to prolong the aging process in our skin much longer than in past years. But one thing we don’t have control over getting is grey hair. Naturally, you can cover the greys if you want but we wanted to give a little ode to your first grey hair. Whether you’ve already had yours come through, or it’s something you’ve been stressed about happening, we’re giving you some tips on what to do when you see your first grey hair.
Don’t Pull it Out
We know, we know it’s so tempting to just pull out the first grey hair you have. It seems logical, right? Just pull it out completely and you won’t have to worry about grey hair for a while then. While there is that myth about plucking one grey hair and seven more showing up, that’s not going to happen to you. The problem with pulling out your grey hair (and others if you have more that follow suit) is as those hairs begin to grow back you’ll have very short, stubby pieces throughout your hair. So while you may be panicked about having your first grey hair, just pulling it out could face you much bigger frustrations as they grow back.
Temporary Fixes Can Work Wonders
When you just have one or two grey hair strands it’s not really worth going to get your entire head of hair colored from your colorist (unless you already go on a regular basis). Experts suggest one of the latest and greatest ways to blend a few initial grey hair strands in with the rest of your hair is through temporary fixes, specifically color depositing shampoo products. These color depositing shampoos help to create a naturally blended hair color that deposits onto the grey hair into the rest of your hair. It’s something you use just like your normal shampoo so it’s safe to say application is pretty simple.
Focus On Keeping Your Hair Well-Nourished
While there are a lot of different causes to grey hair showing up, one thing that’s stressed by hair stylists everywhere is to step up your nourishing routine in your hair care. Spotting a grey hair can be the result of a lack of nutrients and stress to the hair, so giving your hair a little more love and nourishment can help to maintain/repair your hair as its needed. Coconut oil and deep conditioning masks are some of the best products to begin using on a consistent basis to help give your hair the nourishment it needs. Regardless of the specific hair care products you choose to use, you want to choose products that focus on nourishment, moisture and hydration for the hair. All of these elements help to give your hair the care and repair it needs if any prior damage has been done.
