Some women have the perfect hair. They are able to get up out of bed in the morning, and their hair looks flawless. They can wash it, and don’t need to blow dry it or straighten it or put any sort of product in their hair to tame it or make it look fantastic. Other women are not so lucky. For those of us who have unruly, frizzy hair by nature, there is quite an extensive bit of work we put into making it look fantastic on a daily basis.

The Science behind Frizz
Frizzy hair is caused by excess moisture invading the strands . The hair itself swells and takes in moisture from outside sources, such as humidity, moisture in the air from rain, steam from showers, and even sweat when working out. Frizz affects those with curly hair seemingly more so than those with straighter hair, because curly hair tends to have less moisture to begin with.
What can be done about Frizz?
Frizz can be dealt with in a few different ways. If you want to attempt to fix the frizz from the inside, consuming more water on a daily basis can infuse your hair with the necessary moisture you need to keep your precious strands from expanding and opening themselves up to outside moisture.
Using good quality shampoos which moisturize your hair thoroughly and contain low to no sulfates, preferably, coupled with a really good conditioner without sulfates is the absolute best thing you can do for your frizzy hair. Sulfates tend to irritate the frizz more, causing more of a problem and adding undue stress to your already hectic life. Also, use a good deep conditioning treatment at least once per week.
Incorporate Keratin treatments into your regular hair care routine. Keratin treatments should be done at least every 3-4 months, and they are a wonderful addition to maintaining low to no frizz. They actually infuse your hair with proteins which may be lost or lacking, and also provide straightening capabilities. They tend to run on the pricey side – but let’s face it, we are willing to pay whatever it costs to have fabulous hair!
Choosing not to brush your hair is one of the best things you can do for frizzy and unruly hair. Brushing the hair tends to cause frizz, and can even cause damage to the hair shafts and follicles, and cause breakage. Avoid brushing your hair at all costs if you can, and simply use your fingers to tousle your hair after a shower.
Avoid over washing your hair. This is a big one! Normally, if you have frizzy or dry hair, washing your hair at least once per week will suffice. Many women go this route, and are thankful to see great results after only a couple of days!
Using a good hair serum to tame frizz is also essential. Opt for those which are of good quality, because as the saying goes – you get what you pay for!
Using a good quality ceramic flat iron every few days will keep your hair flawless, perfect, and free from frizz. Be sure to use ceramic, as it is generally infused with ions to tame unruly hair, as well as heats the hair from the inside out – providing you with shiny, perfect hair in a snap. Ceramic irons tend to heat faster, and take less time to run through your hair as well. It’s a great idea to invest in a good quality flat iron, as they last for a long time and they are most definitely worth the price you pay for them. Changing your diet can also affect the level of frizz you deal with on a daily basis. Be sure to incorporate plenty of hydrating foods into your diet, such as fruit and vegetables, and avoid fatty, greasy, and processed foods. Not only will your hair thank you, but your body will, too.
