Having volume rich hair doesn’t have to be just a dream. In fact, it’s easy to have the luscious, full looking hair you have always dreamed of and envied. Lionesse brings you some helpful tips to take the guesswork, doubt, and depression out of limp, thin hair and transform it into something you can be proud of.
Use Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo is one of the best products you can use to add volume to the hair. Apply the product to the roots, tousle the hair a bit, and then blow dry.
Blow Dry Upside Down
When you get out of the shower and need to give your hair a blow-out, opt for drying your hair upside down. Apply a volume inducing mousse to the hair throughout before attempting the blow dry, and watch as your hair is transformed into fabulous, thick looking locks.
Use Products for Oomph
Using products meant for adding volume is always a good bet when trying to get the appearance of thicker, fuller hair. Products such as volume shampoo and conditioner, volume increasing mousse, volume increasing serums and gels, and volumizing hairspray are all great products to purchase and use on a regular basis for fabulous hair.
Use a Round Brush
When blow drying your hair, use a round brush to add volume to the roots. Add volumizing mousse to the roots, wrap the hair at the roots around the brush, pulling about 1-2 inches away from the head, and then blow dry until you achieve the style and look you want. Remember to work in small sections to give an even, frizz free blow dry.
Avoid Product Overuse
When you are in the shower and reaching for the conditioner, whether or not it’s a volume increasing conditioner, remember to only apply it to the ends of the hair and forgo the root area. Products have the capability of weighing the hair down, and this is what someone with thin hair doesn’t want to do. Opt for less, as less is more.
Opt for a Layered Cut
Layered hairstyles give the appearance of thicker, fuller hair. The next time you head out to see your stylist, try a new style and opt for some layers. There are two main types – short layers, and long layers – either one will provide volume and the ability to blow dry into a more voluminous look.
Back combing is another great way to add lots of volume to the hair, and if done right, will provide you with a style you can wear either down or up depending on what look you are going for. Simply take a fine toothed comb, grasp the hair at the root, pulling back as if you were going to create a half-up, half-down look, and then comb the hair underneath, from top to bottom or hair shaft to root, pulling the comb downwards with each pass, and never brushing upwards. You can damage your hair if you pull at the hair with the comb, so be sure to use caution when doing the back comb process.
