Heat comes in many different forms. There are quite a few different ways in which our hair is exposed to heat on a regular basis. We’re in the middle of the summer season and heat affecting our hair rings more true now, than any other time of the year. Chances are you’ve had a few days (or more) where you felt like the heat completely destroyed your hair. We’ve all been there, more often than we would like. Since there are still quite a few weeks left of the summer heat, we took it to the experts to find out some tips so we don’t let the heat destroy your style any longer.
Go Heat Free When You Can
We love using heated styling tools and enjoying warm summer days just as much as you do, but the truth is our hair needs a break every now and then. If you can keep your hair free of any heat at least one day a week (if not more) you’re going to make the world of a difference to your overall hair style. When your hair is constantly put under the pressure heat induces, it’s common to experience a lot of destroy elements make their way to your hair. Do yourself a favor and cut back on ALL heat (that means keep your hair covered from the sun, too) as often as you can.
Moisture Is Your Savior
Heat, whether from heated styling tools or the sun, has a tendency of zapping moisture right out of our hair. When our hair is stripped of a lot of the natural moisture and oils it consists of, it can result in hair that’s damaged leaving your style destroyed. That being said, there are a few things you can do to add and seal more moisture into your hair strands. For starters, getting serious about your conditioning products and routines is going to make a huge difference here. Using a quality conditioning product when you wash your hair is great, but also adding a deep conditioning treatment into your weekly routine. In addition to using the right moisturizing hair care products, applying heat protectant to your hair before you expose your hair of any sort of heat (styling tools and/or sun related) can help to lock in more moisture and protect your hair from becoming destroyed from the heat.
Watch How You Use Your Tools
Since heated styling tools are such a big part of how our hair is exposed to heat, it’s often the form of heat where our hair can end up destroyed the most often. There are a few things to consider when using heated styling tools, to ensure that they don’t destroy your hair style. First, consider the temperature setting of the styling tool. The tool should be at a setting that’s warm but not too hot for your hair type. Also, NEVER ever use flat irons or curling irons when your hair has any type of wetness in it.
