It’s no secret that many of us damage and over process our hair, putting its integrity to the test with daily use of hairdryers, routine root touch-ups and other chemical processes. Sometimes, just like our skin can benefit from a no-makeup-day, our locks can benefit from a no-heat-day every once in a while. Fortunately, the slicked-back wet hair look worn by supermodels on the catwalk is becoming trendier by the minute – and for more reasons than one!
Style experts are saying, in fact, that the Wet Look will be one of the hottest (if not the hottest) hairstyles this summer! You are probably thinking to yourself “this can’t be right, a wet hair day is a bad hair day.” Well ladies, we are here to tell you that your still-wet-from-the-shower-hair is now an effortlessly sexy trend. Since the wet look is so simple and effortless, it is the perfect time for glam makeup! This means when rocking The Wet Look, you totally can play up your smoky eye or try that new lipstick shade. Another reason to love the look is it will save you time, while keeping you cool in the AM. Just think, since you don’t need to blow-dry your hair, you can catch a few extra zzz’s, but you also don’t have to blow warm heat inches away from your scalp in the dead of summer. For those of you who cannot skip shower day because naturally oily hair, girl you are going love the Wet Look. This hairdo calls for maximum shine, so many women will actually be adding high-shine products to make the look last throughout the day. But, the natural (and healthy, may we add?) oils of the scalp get the job done!
Simple & Shiny Tresses
It might also surprise you that there are different methods of achieving the Wet Look, and different styles to rock it! You can get the look one of three ways. The first method, which was already mentioned above, is for those of you with naturally oily hair. All you need to do is wake up, more than likely your hair will already have all the sheen you need. Another option is to shower at night, being sure to give your hair and scalp a good rinse, making sure that you do not use shampoo. If your hair needs it, go ahead and slather on some conditioner while you’re in there. The final, most common way to get the Wet Look is to let your hair air the day after you shower (or not, this same method can be done with wet locks), then apply hair gel or way throughout your hair with your fingers, then take a comb to it and shape it to style. From this point, you can either set it with some hairspray, or use the cold setting on your blow dryer for a few seconds.
More Sleek Options
As I mentioned, The Wet Look can be styled more than one way. Once you have your locks have achieved shine status, before setting the look you can create one of these trendy looks:
- Sleek Ponytail: This look is beyond simple! What you’ll need to do is work the gel starting at the crown of your head. Then, pull your hair back and secure it with a hair elastic.
- Wet Semi-Updo: This look is perfect for a lunch date or weekend workday. Start by applying the gel specifically to the roots and sides of your hair. Pull your hair back to the center of your head, secure it with an elastic, then twist your hair and wrap it around itself, then use bobby pins and hairspray to hold the look in place.
- Faux Bob: For this look, you’ll need medium to long hair. After working the gel into your locks, comb it straight and secure it in a low ponytail. Then slide your elastic about one-half to three-quarters of the way down your ponytail, turn the and of the pony under the rest of your hair and secure it with bobby pins.
